If you do, return this card from your graveyard to your hand. Cards with dredge have a number after the ability and the reminder text for the ability reads “If you would draw a card, instead you may put exactly X cards from your library into your graveyard. Since the guild uses dead material to cultivate new growth, it made sense to have a mechanic centered around the graveyard. Dredge was introduced as the defining mechanic of the Golgari guild back in the original Ravnica block. Today it’s about dredge, a mechanic that is just as broken as phyrexian mana and now has a deck named after it. Phyrexian mana is a great example of this, but that’s another topic. Damage from sources with wither affects players and planeswalkers normally.Every now and then Wizards of the Coast releases a mechanic that is too good for Magic, like those that break the fundamentals of the game.If the source has left the battlefield by then, its last known information is used. If the source of the damage is still on the battlefield at the time that damage is dealt, its characteristics are checked to see if it has wither. When it's dealt, it will cause lifelink and other similar abilities to trigger. Since damage from a source with wither is real damage, it follows all the other rules for damage. They won't be removed if the creature regenerates or the turn ends. The -1/-1 counters remain on the creature indefinitely.Wither's effect applies to any damage, not just combat damage.702.80d Multiple instances of wither on the same object are redundant.702.80c The wither rules function no matter what zone an object with wither deals damage from.702.80b If an object changes zones before an effect causes it to deal damage, its last known information is used to determine whether it had wither.Rather, it causes that source’s controller to put that many -1/-1 counters on that creature. Damage dealt to a creature by a source with wither isn’t marked on that creature.
